Wendy BeckerWendy BeckerWelcoming Tiscali UK to the TalkTalk Group

Today is a milestone in the history of TalkTalk. We’ve formally completed the acquisition of Tiscali UK, first announced in May, making us the biggest provider of broadband to Britain’s homes. We now reach over 4 million people – a fantastic achievement as we’ve only been concentrating on the broadband market since 2006.

While we rightly recognise this is an important moment for us as a company, our priority right now is to welcome our new customers and reassure them that the quality of their service is our first priority.

One of the main questions we’ve had from customers of Tiscali and the other brands in the portfolio – including Pipex, Bulldog, Toucan, Nildram and Freedom2Surf – is about what they can expect to receive now they’re part of the TalkTalk Group.

Our Next Generation Network is the most advanced in the UK. It covers 80% of the UK via 1,700 fully unbundled exchanges, which means that new customers will benefit from its very high levels of reliability and stability.

Because we run our own network, it also means we are in charge of the technology behind it. So Tiscali customers will be able to enjoy the benefits of a network with higher bandwidth, greater capacity and more advanced services than they were used to. This will make it easier and faster for them to use the internet, as well as giving them lower-cost telephone calls.

Another question we’ve heard a lot via this blog is about customer service. We’ve invested heavily in customer service at TalkTalk and we’ll be applying the lessons we’ve learned very quickly to ensure Tiscali customers begin to see improvements in the short term. TalkTalk was voted best value home phone company by uSwitch in April 2009 and also recognised for having the most improved customer service of any broadband provider in the survey. In fact, our research shows that 90% of our customers think our network is as good or better than their previous network, so we’re confident Tiscali customers will notice an improvement here.

Finally, one of the things at the top of our agenda is introducing new products and services for the customers who are now part of our base and we’ve already got some in the pipeline, so watch this space.

For now, I simply want to once again welcome Tiscali customers to TalkTalk, Britain’s brightest phone and broadband company.
