The TalkTalk Digital Heroes Awards is the UK’s only scheme to reward the amazing individuals who are using digital technology to benefit their local communities, and the opening date for the 2010 awards is now just a couple of weeks away!
This year we are proud to announce that we are being supported by the Daily Mirror alongside digital inclusion charity Citizens Online. With the Daily Mirror’s support we can help spread the word about the awards to an even wider audience.
Last year our TalkTalk awards saw an incredible response with over 30,000 public votes deciding on 12 truly inspirational winners. If you want to find out more about last year’s winners, you can see them here.
The awards are given to outstanding individuals, working within UK community groups or charities, who are using the power of digital technology to implement bright ideas which bring about positive social change.
This year, another 12 regional winners from across the UK will receive cash grants of £5,000 each to fund digital projects – as well as getting free broadband to help them make the most of the internet.
From these, one overall winner will be chosen by our judging panel – which includes UK Digital Champion Martha Lane Fox, TalkTalk’s Chairman Charles Dunstone and Daily Mirror editor Richard Wallace – to receive £10,000 plus free broadband!
Winners will be invited to receive their awards at a special ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in December.
We’re looking for the individuals behind these projects to come forward this year and receive the recognition they deserve as Britain’s digital heroes. We’ll blog again when entries open and we look forward to receiving your nominations soon!
