Here at TalkTalk we’ve been challenged to get involved in something called Janathon, that promises to be the ultimate new year’s resolution: to blog and do exercise every day in the month of January. As the calorie-heavy Christmas break approaches, it’s a relief to know that there are people out there with a ready made solution.
Janathon is a great example of how the internet brings people with a common interest together – in this case helping each other to get fit – in a social, collaborative way.
Janathon participants will be competing to see who can run the furthest during the month, so we’re only too happy to get together with AudioFuel running music to put up some prizes, including a Garmin Forerunner and running shop vouchers. The challenge is also open to non-runners, who are welcome to walk, cycle, row, swim, jump puddles, build snowmen – as long as it is regular exercise and is blogged about.
The blogger behind it all, Cathy White, came up with the idea after running a summer version of the competition, called Juneathon. And over a hundred bloggers have already signed up. Janathon participants can register via Janathon.com and follow the group on Twitter at @janathon_ and join the Facebook page. For those that don’t have a blog already, the organisers recommend Wordpress.com, Posterous.com or Blogger.com
And I reckon that even considering Janathon entitles me to have another mince pie – well, I’ve got January to burn it off….
