Tristia ClarkeTristia ClarkeDon’t forget to check your Facebook this Mother’s Day

This Sunday is Mother’s Day but if you’ve forgotten to post your mum a card, it’s still not too late to make a gesture that shows how much you love her.
Mother's Day card
Our latest research shows that we should be tweeting our mothers this year, because more mums value a tweet or Facebook message than their children think. And perhaps surprisingly, more mothers than children think messages sent online are as personal as paper cards.

Indeed it seems that many of us have already taken this advice. It looks like social networks will be plastered with good wishes on Mother’s Day, with almost 1.5 million mums likely to receive messages via their Facebook or Twitter profiles. But the sad thing is that a quarter of a million of these posts risk going unread as mums may not check their messages.

But even though social networking sites are used by many of the UK as their primary means of communications, a large number of us are still traditionalists when it comes to Mother’s Day; a whopping 15 million mums are expecting to be sent a card this year.

So to all the mums out there, don’t forget to check your Facebook this Mothering Sunday.

This Mother’s Day:

• 15 million mothers will receive a card

• 3 million will receive a text message

• 1.5 million will receive a social media message

• Three-quarters of a million will receive an ecard/email

• Half a million will receive a video message
