Adrian TaylorAdrian TaylorTalkTalk is glad to support IWF Awareness Day

At TalkTalk we absolutely believe that everyone has the right to access safe, affordable broadband. That’s why we developed HomeSafe, the UK’s first network level security service, and why we are also proud to be a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

Today is the IWF’s annual awareness day and it also marks 15 years of the IWF tackling online child sexual abuse content. In that time they have worked to remove a staggering 87,000 child sexual abuse web pages.

The IWF was established by the UK internet industry and is the UK Internet Hotline for the public to report criminal online content. Reports can be submitted anonymously and each one is assessed and tracked by a specialist team of analysts. Action is then taken to remove and disrupt this web content. Since it began, the IWF has assessed almost 370,000 web pages. As a result of this self-regulatory approach, less than 1% of online child sexual abuse content has been hosted in the UK since 2003, down from 18% in 1997.

This is a tremendous achievement and, along with other internet companies, we will continue to work with the IWF to tackle this type of online content. We hope that all ISPs will eventually join the IWF to prevent their customers from stumbling across images of child abuse and ultimately making surfing the internet a safer and more enjoyable experience.
