Child internet safety in the news
Child internet safety has been in the news again this week following a spam attack of indecent images on a social network. While this instance was due to malicious hacking, our Life Online research has shown that the risks of exposing children to inappropriate content is very real: • 17% of six year olds and 39% [...] |

We’re committed to being the UK’s safest broadband provider
There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the Government’s work to protect children online. Indeed, we announced a few weeks ago that we fully support the recommendation of the Bailey Review that parents should be helped to block inappropriate content on the internet and be offered an ‘Active Choice’ about whether to use controls. Along [...] |

Today the Government announced a range of measures to protect children online following the recommendations of the Bailey Review. We specifically welcomed the Bailey recommendation that parents should be offered an ‘active choice’ about whether to use parental controls. Along with other ISPs, we will be offering all new customers an ‘active choice’ about whether or [...] |

There were a range of organisations and viewpoints represented, including Childnet, Mother’s Union and CEOP, while Claire Perry MP and Dr Linda Papadopoulos contributed too. The [...] |

Helping you draw a line between playtime and Homework Time
With almost fifty per cent of British children aged between 12 and 17 using social networking sites every single day, its perhaps not surprising that new research by The Nominet Trust found that 80% of Britain’s parents fear that their children are developing an addiction to social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. |

HomeSafe – a mum’s view
I am genuinely excited by TalkTalk’s new product: HomeSafe. If it wasn’t for Blog Camp, it would have passed me by as I am not one to read the leaflets that are in with my bills, and even now that I have read them, I don’t think they do HomeSafe justice. Incidentally, Blog Camp took place on Thursday 12th May, the week that HomeSafe was launched. |

TalkTalk welcomes the Bailey Review
Today, the Prime Minister published a new report on the commercialisation of children, called ‘Letting Children Be Children’. Prepared by Reg Bailey, the chief executive of Mother’s Union, the report makes recommendations on many areas including pop videos and adult clothing aimed at young girls, but, as an internet service provider, we were particularly interested in its finding that many parents have concerns about the types of content their children can access online. |

How has technology affected your family’s life?
It’s National Family Week and to mark it some interesting research has been released on how technology affects family life. Could the royal wedding mark an internet watershed?
Back in 1953 the Queen’s coronation was a watershed moment in the success of a relatively new technology: television. Millions of people bought TV sets for the first time to make sure they could see the coronation for themselves. Up till that point TV had been a luxury – it was quite typical for only one house [...] |

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Family Concerts
I’m really excited about our final two family concerts of the year here at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic: Pirates and Big Bear’s Band . I think what’s unique about these events is seeing adults and children enjoying LIVE music together, many for the first time. The atmosphere is great as over 1000 children and their [...] |

Reading bedtime stories from a parent’s perspective
Research suggests that the age-old ritual of the bedtime story is in danger of becoming extinct. It’s usually attributed to a combination of factors: tired parents, kids who watch TV in their bedrooms, and the tendency to allow kids to wind down in front of Iggle Piggle rather than immersed in the pages of a book. [...] |

And the nation’s favourite bedtime story is…
TalkTalk Tales, our search for the country’s best amateur storyteller, seems to have sparked a national debate about parents reading to their kids – are we doing it enough, and just why is it so good for your children? Children’s authors Julia Donaldson, who wrote The Gruffalo, and Charlie Higson, who writes stories about the young [...] |

Memories of bedtime stories are one of those things that people hold dear to them. Whether it’s the Famous Five series or The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, we’ve all got our favourites. And with Louis the only judge who isn’t represented, we’re in for a very open final.
