Silver surfers catching up with younger generations

Despite not having grown up with computers or internet access, new research conducted by TalkTalk and F-Secure has found that the older generations are catching up when it comes to their internet use.

Child internet safety in the news

Child internet safety has been in the news again this week following a spam attack of indecent images on a social network. While this instance was due to malicious hacking, our Life Online research has shown that the risks of exposing children to inappropriate content is very real:
•	17% of six year olds and 39% [...]

We’re committed to being the UK’s safest broadband provider

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the Government’s work to protect children online. Indeed, we announced a few weeks ago that we fully support the recommendation of the Bailey Review that parents should be helped to block inappropriate content on the internet and be offered an ‘Active Choice’ about whether to use controls.
Along [...]

Today the Government announced a range of measures to protect children online following the recommendations of the Bailey Review. We specifically welcomed the Bailey recommendation that parents should be offered an ‘active choice’ about whether to use parental controls.
Along with other ISPs, we will be offering all new customers an ‘active choice’ about whether or [...]

Guardian roundtable: how to make the net safe

We recently attended a roundtable debate hosted by the Guardian, which looked at the very topical issue of protecting children online and was written up in today’s Guardian Society pages. There were a range of organisations and viewpoints represented, including Childnet, Mother’s Union and CEOP, while Claire Perry MP and Dr Linda Papadopoulos contributed too.

Helping you draw a line between playtime and Homework Time

With almost fifty per cent of British children aged between 12 and 17 using social networking sites every single day, its perhaps not surprising that new research by The Nominet Trust found that 80% of Britain’s parents fear that their children are developing an addiction to social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

HomeSafe – a mum’s view

I am genuinely excited by TalkTalk’s new product: HomeSafe. If it wasn’t for Blog Camp, it would have passed me by as I am not one to read the leaflets that are in with my bills, and even now that I have read them, I don’t think they do HomeSafe justice. Incidentally, Blog Camp took place on Thursday 12th May, the week that HomeSafe was launched.

TalkTalk welcomes the Bailey Review

Today, the Prime Minister published a new report on the commercialisation of children, called ‘Letting Children Be Children’. Prepared by Reg Bailey, the chief executive of Mother’s Union, the report makes recommendations on many areas including pop videos and adult clothing aimed at young girls, but, as an internet service provider, we were particularly interested in its finding that many parents have concerns about the types of content their children can access online.

It’s National Family Week and to mark it some interesting research has been released on how technology affects family life.
