1 Cybermummy: Mummy bloggers have arrived
On Saturday 25th June there was a flurry of excitement as over 400 Mums (and a handful of Dads) headed to the Brewery from far and wide. Founded in January 2010 Cybermummy is pitched as “the only British blogging conference devoted entirely to parent bloggers” and the “best blogging networking event of the year”. Cybermummy has definitely “arrived” and recent press have got hold of it too: Guardian and the Independent. If you would like to get a sneaky peek inside the doors of the event, watch this excellent video (and see if you can spot me). I wrote about my Cybermummy experience on my blog, where I did not even touch on which workshops I went to and what I learned (or didn’t). My BlogCamp post by contrast is so different, where it was all about the content.

2 Shopping online: style, savings and safety
Confession time – my name is Jen and I’m an online shopaholic. From ASOS to Zalando, I can spend hours clicking from site to site, my virtual shopping bag bulging. Retail websites are a great alternative to high street shops, and the internet will never judge you for buying another pair of shoes. Take a look at my top tips to really make the most of your online shopping trip…

3 From snakes to angry birds: how mobile gaming got serious
Remember Snake? When I brought my first mobile phone, a Nokia 5110, this game was the premier ‘app’ of the day. The concept was simple: steer your snake around the screen at increasing speeds, eat dots (which make you grow), and don’t hit the walls or your tail. Like many easy-to-play but difficult-to-master games it [...]

4 Is it time to join the contactless revolution?
We are all glued to our mobile phones more than ever before, but I have to admit I’m struggling to get my head around the idea of using my phone to pay for coffees, sandwiches, newspapers and even the odd pint at the pub, simply by waving the handset over a reader. Following hot on the [...]

5 HomeSafe – a mum’s view
I am genuinely excited by TalkTalk’s new product: HomeSafe. If it wasn’t for Blog Camp, it would have passed me by as I am not one to read the leaflets that are in with my bills, and even now that I have read them, I don’t think they do HomeSafe justice. Incidentally, Blog Camp took place on Thursday 12th May, the week that HomeSafe was launched.

6 The appeal of retro gadgets in a digital age
"The past is a foreign country," said the writer L.P. Hartley. If so it's one we're increasingly keen to visit. Mad Men helped kick-start the craze for mid-century fashion and furniture, and every aspect of 80s pop culture has been repurposed for today's tastes. But its not just retro clothes, music and Sly Stallone action films that have made a comeback. Gadgets once consigned to the attic have been dusted down and rediscovered by a generation weaned on iPods and Xboxes.

7 When will video games get a sense of humour?
When did you last laugh at a video game? And not because of some wooden dialogue, or unintentionally hilarious glitch that wasn’t ironed out during development. No, I mean when did you last laugh because your character said something witty? Or due to a well-executed sight gag or piece of slapstick? A while ago, I’d [...]

8 Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Family Concerts
I’m really excited about our final two family concerts of the year here at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic: Pirates and Big Bear’s Band . I think what’s unique about these events is seeing adults and children enjoying LIVE music together, many for the first time. The atmosphere is great as over 1000 children and their [...]

9 Reading bedtime stories from a parent’s perspective
Research suggests that the age-old ritual of the bedtime story is in danger of becoming extinct. It’s usually attributed to a combination of factors: tired parents, kids who watch TV in their bedrooms, and the tendency to allow kids to wind down in front of Iggle Piggle rather than immersed in the pages of a book. [...]

10 Kids and social networking – a parent’s view
We face many choices when using technology but there’s nothing quite like the moment when your Mum or Dad tries to ‘friend’ you on Facebook to make you consider your options. Do you accept, or decline? Can you really bring yourself to put your Mum on a limited profile list? The answer in my case is [...]

11 It pays to shop around for insurance online
September – and that means one thing: it’s time to renew my car insurance. My current insurer, Elephant, has sent a renewal quote of £289.50. Can I beat it by shopping around?

12 Dos and don’ts of voucher code sites
Fancy £150 off a LG plasma TV at Comet? How about 20% off orders over £120 at Mothercare.com? Or 15% off chocolate at Thorntons? As the recession has tightened its grip, more and more people have logged on to voucher code sites to get discounts just like these.
