Protecting children online with parental controls
We welcome the continued focus from Government, and specifically the Prime Minister, on the hugely important issue of protecting children online. TalkTalk remains the only ISP to ask new customers to make an upfront decision about using parental controls. Since we began doing this in March, one in three new customers has chosen to activate them; [...] |

One in three new customers using HomeSafe
Today the Independent Parliamentary Inquiry into Online Child Protection, chaired by Claire Perry MP, has published its final report which included a number of recommendations for Government and ISPs about how child internet safety could be improved. It is good to see the continued Parliamentary and Government focus in this area. I’ve always believed that as [...] |

Promoting online safety by keeping kids safe on the streets
Child safety has long been an important issue for TalkTalk. We’ve been working hard to help keep children safe online through our unique HomeSafe security service, but having recently learnt of the funding difficulties faced by school crossing patrols, we’re no longer looking only at child safety on the ‘information superhighway’ but also on real-life [...] |

TalkTalk announces launch of Government-backed ‘Active Choice’
Last year, I blogged about our reaction to the Government’s Bailey Review into the commercialisation of children, and specifically that we welcomed the recommendation that parents should be offered an ‘active choice’ about whether to use parental controls. We committed to implementing this for all new customers by October 2012 and today I am really [...] |

Child internet safety in the news
Child internet safety has been in the news again this week following a spam attack of indecent images on a social network. While this instance was due to malicious hacking, our Life Online research has shown that the risks of exposing children to inappropriate content is very real: • 17% of six year olds and 39% [...] |

We’re committed to being the UK’s safest broadband provider
There’s been a lot of discussion recently about the Government’s work to protect children online. Indeed, we announced a few weeks ago that we fully support the recommendation of the Bailey Review that parents should be helped to block inappropriate content on the internet and be offered an ‘Active Choice’ about whether to use controls. Along [...] |

Who will protect our children in the internet age?
Safety is something that we take very seriously at TalkTalk. Last week we attended an event at Conservative Party Conference entitled “Who will protect our children in the internet age?” which looked at the different roles that government, industry, parents and the third sector have to play in keeping children safe online. The panel included Children’s [...] |

What are your children doing online?
Child internet safety is an issue that isn’t going away, and nor should it. It was the subject of discussion again on Tuesday’s Woman’s Hour (listen here: BBC Radio 4, 23:00 minutes), which featured Time Loughton, Children’s Minister and co-chair of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS). We were pleased that Tim Loughton recognised [...] |

Government launches new child internet safety strategy
You may have read this morning about the launch of the government’s new child internet safety strategy. The strategy – called “Click Clever, Click Safe” – has been drawn up by the members of the UK Council on Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), of which TalkTalk is a part. It’s the government’s response to the recommendations set out in Prof Tanya Byron’s review of child safety online, which she published 18 months ago. |
