Smartphone “addiction” a sign of the times?
Ofcom claims that we’re becoming a nation addicted to smartphones, following research released today which shows that a quarter of adults and nearly half of teens now own a smartphone. A key finding was that 37% of adults and 60% of teens admitted to being “highly addicted” to their smartphone device, such as an iPhone, [...] |

Competitors behind the times when it comes to offering better value
We were interested to hear that BT was calling on its competitors to match its prices for landline calls to mobiles because at TalkTalk we more than match them - in fact, we’ve been offering much cheaper rates for some time and are still better value than BT even after this latest price change. |

We all love paying less!
Last week Ofcom revealed that, on average, customers today are paying more than 50% less for their broadband than they did in 2005. This is great news for our customers and it’s due to something called Local Loop Unbundling, which means that companies like us are able to install equipment into local telephone exchanges that [...] |

Today is the 8th European Safer Internet Day and as one of the UK’s leading broadband providers, we’re really pleased to be involved. Ofcom’s report reveals a picture of a networked nation
Today’s report from Ofcom on the state of the international communications market makes for fascinating reading. Many of the headlines today have focused on the fact that British consumers are some of the most enthusiastic ‘early adopters’ of technology and spend almost twice as much online as our European neighbours. On average we spent an incredible £1,031 [...] |

Ofcom says we’re ‘multimedia tasking’ like never before
You may well have heard about Ofcom’s latest report on the state of media consumption in the UK – after all, the report tells us that we spend half our waking hours watching TV, listening to the radio or surfing the internet. You probably came across the news on one of those media. Alternatively, you may [...] |

Broadband speed – the facts
You may have read this morning about Ofcom’s report on broadband speeds. We thought it would be helpful to set out why speeds vary and what you can expect from an ISP like TalkTalk. The speed of broadband you can receive depends on the distance from your property to the nearest telephone exchange. If you live [...] |

Helping tune up your broadband speed
Recently I blogged on how we’ve invested in our Next Generation Network – the largest in the UK behind BT – to give our customers the most reliable broadband service at the best possible speed. I mentioned that, despite the focus on people’s distance from the internet exchange, in actual fact broadband speed can be significantly affected by very simple things in people’s homes. Indeed, around 60% of people, by our estimation, have sub-optimal wiring in their home which affects the quality and speed of their broadband connection. |

Landline developments
We might be better known nowadays for our broadband offer, but TalkTalk started in 2003 as a home phone company offering significant savings for customers over BT. While our business and our offer has evolved since then, offering phone services to millions of our customers is still at the heart of what we do. |

The Digital Divide: the ongoing battle
Over the past 10 years great efforts have been made in getting Britain online and closing what’s been called the “digital divide”. These days the majority of households have access to broadband but there’s still a stubbornly large minority – around 30% – who have remained offline. |

Mobile Broadband: essential or gadget?
Mobile broadband is a topic that's always sure to create a lively debate. To some it's a fantastic way of having the internet at your fingertips wherever you are. To others it's a frustrating experience, marred with blackspots and slow speeds. To me, the issue is more about expectation. |
